Adding Items
- Tap + (or the "Add Item" button) to add a new item at the bottom of the outline.
- Press Return while editing an item to create a new sibling item directly below it.
- Press Shift+Return to create a new sibling item above the current one.
Adding Sub-Items (Children)
To nest an item under another:
- Indent: press Tab while editing, or use the context menu → Add Child.
- A new child item can also be added from the item's context menu.
Indenting and Outdenting
| Action | iOS (hardware keyboard) | Mac |
|---|---|---|
| Indent (make child) | Tab | Tab |
| Outdent (promote to parent) | Shift+Tab | Shift+Tab |
You can also use the indent/outdent buttons in the bottom action bar (iOS) or from the item's context menu.
Reordering Items
Drag the drag handle (three horizontal lines on the right side of an item) to move it within the outline. A drop indicator shows where the item will land — above, below, or as a child of another item.
Deleting Items
Swipe left on an item (iOS) to reveal the Delete button. On Mac, use the context menu or the Delete key when the item is selected. Deleting a parent removes all its children too.
Expanding and Collapsing
Items that have children show a chevron indicator. Tap the chevron to expand or collapse that branch.
Use the ⋯ menu in the outline toolbar to Expand All or Collapse All at once.
Copying, Cutting, and Pasting Items
- Tap Select (iOS toolbar) or long-press any item to enter Selection Mode.
- Select one or more items (tap each, or use Select All).
- Tap Copy to copy the selected subtrees to the clipboard.
- Exit selection mode, then use the item context menu → Paste as Sibling or Paste as Child.
