Exporting a Full Backup
Settings → Backup & Restore → Export Backup
This creates a single file containing all your outlines, items, notes, images (embedded as data), tags, and highlight styles.
Importing a Full Backup
Settings → Backup & Restore → Import Backup
Select a previously exported backup file. Items are deduplicated by ID — importing the same outline twice will not create duplicates. An import summary shows how many outlines, items, and tags were restored.
Exporting a Single Outline
From the outline list, long-press an outline → Export (or use the export button in the outline detail toolbar). This creates an Outline Package — a .codeoutliner folder containing the outline structure plus its images as plain files (no base64 bloat). On Mac, Finder shows it as a single document icon; on iOS, the Files app treats it as a folder.
Importing a Single Outline
Settings → Backup & Restore → Import Outline (or drag a .codeoutliner package into the app on Mac). The outline is added to your library.
Tip: Keep regular backups before major edits or after a big project milestone. iCloud sync is not a backup — if you delete an outline it syncs the deletion to all devices.
